City welcomes new staff members

spacerBill Ahrens has joined the city staff as Director of Planning and Zoning. Before coming to Excelsior Springs, Bill worked for the City of Olathe, Kans., as a plan review engineer and as a senior planner for Lawrence and Douglas County in Kansas. He also managed his own company, Ahrens Consulting, providing transportation planning services for various clients.
spacerBill is a resident of Roeland Park., Kans.
spacerBill replaces Nick Pappas, who will remain employed by the city as the GIS (geographic information system) coordinator.

spacerCheryl Walters joined the staff as an administrative assistant to the community developent department in October.
spacerIn addition to her duties in the office, Cheryl acts as secretary to the Planning & Zoning Commission, Zoning Board and Historic Preservation Department.
spacerCheryl and her husband, Karl, are lifelong residents of Excelsior Springs.

spacerLois Edmiston joined the city staff as a financial analysis in January. She will be providing assistance in the office of Steve Marriott, Finance Director.
spacerLois worked for almost 25 years at Package Service in Kansas City as director of finance before coming to Excelsior Springs.
spacerLois is a resident of rural Kearney.

Finance Department under renovation
spacerThe City Finance Department inside the Hall of Waters is under renovation. During the renovation, offices of the Finance Department have moved to the downstairs Mezzaine, accessible by the elevator or stairs.
spacerFor information about your water bill or tax paying services, call 816-630-0763 between the hours of 8:15 a.m. and 4:45 pm., Monday through Friday.

First foundations poured on Excelsior Street



spacerOn Tuesday, January 24, the first foundations for homes in the Downtown Villas Project were poured. The project will create 31 new homes and renovate four historic properties on Excelsior street. Downtown Villas is a project of Gardner Capital Inc., the Springfield development firm that renovated the Oaks Apartments.

Animal Control Center nears completion



spacerThe new Excelsior Springs Animal Control Center is nearing competion at 1298 S. Marietta. The new facility will provide increased kennel space for cats and dogs, desk area for animal control officers, lobby and a small "get to know you" room for families to select pets for adoption.

Excelsior Springs Park & Recreation Launches Online Registration!
spacerExcelsior Springs Parks and Recreation will be offering a new and more convenient way to register for activities or reserve facilities starting December 1 with an online system. With online registration capabilities, thousands of participant will now be able to view, register and pay for activities, including youth and adult sports, fitness classes, art classes and much more! Participants can reserve facilities, check sports schedules and check scores. Customers will still be able to stoy by the office and register or drop registration forms in the drop box located at the Community Center.
